DUNCAN Dr. Robert Bruce Duncan, Jr., Ph.D., DVM, Dublin, VA, loving father and devoted husband, passed away on May 3, 2007, in Blacksburg, VA. Bob loved God and his family and served them both with all his heart. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Susan Ellen (Dunn) Duncan; and 11 year old daughter, Taylor Anne Duncan, his pride and joy. He also is survived by his parents, Robert Bruce Duncan, Sr. and Georgianne Stivanson Duncan, Georgetown, TX; sister and brother-in-law, Diane Duncan Mattox and Ronald K. Mattox, Westerville, OH; sister and brother-in-law, Janice Duncan Bourke and Michael Bourke, Columbus, OH; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Robert E. and Jean Dunn, Henderson, N.C.; sister-in-law, Barbara Wiggins, Youngsville, N.C.; brother-law, David Dunn, Edwardsville, IL; and Brother-in-Christ, Stew Sherrick, Rocky Mount, NC. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Harry and Medryth Duncan and maternal grandparents George and Anne Stivanson. Bob lead by example to his family, his church family, his community, and his vocation. He was a deacon and children's Sunday School teacher at Dublin Baptist Church and served on numerous committees. His love for music was evident as he lent his beautiful bass voice and musical talents to the choir and the blue grass band. He was a Hunter Education Instructor in Pulaski County, an Eagle Scout and supported the Boy Scouts of America with volunteer activities. Bob loved the outdoors and shared that love with everyone that knew him, teaching them about the birds, fish, wildlife and plants that he admired. He taught children to respect God's gifts and to hunt and fish with reverence for the life of each living creature. Bob was an Associate Professor and veterinary pathologist in the Department of Biomedical Sciences and Pathobiology, Virginia/Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine since 1996. He served the college on numerous committees and took great pride in service to the veterinary hospital, graduate and veterinary students. He was an award-winning teacher and excelled in teaching in and out of the classroom. He presented a unique pathology case annually at the Southeast Regional Veterinary Pathology Conference in Tifton, GA, taking a group of veterinary students with him each year so they could experience this training. He was a board-certified member of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists. Funeral service will be held Sunday 2 p.m. at the Dublin Baptist Church, corner of Route 100 and Hawkins Street, Dublin, VA with Rev. T. Ivey Adams, Jr. and Rev. Scott Shartzer officiating.
