Thomas
Alan White, 66, of Hilliard, Ohio, passed away on February 19, 2024, in
his home after gracefully battling myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) since
October 2021. Born
on April 7, 1957, in Columbus, Ohio, Tom was the beloved youngest son of
Paul and Katie White and brother to Paul, Bob and Jim. Growing up in Upper
Arlington, Ohio, Tom attended the Upper Arlington school system,
graduating from UAHS in 1975. He pursued higher education at The Ohio
State University, earning a degree in finance in 1980, followed by an MBA
from the University of Dayton in 1988. On
April 27, 1985, Tom married the love of his life, Pat White (née
Vaughan), at First Community Church in Columbus. Together, they raised two
children, Jessica Nicole and Adam Thomas, in Hilliard, Ohio. Tom
dedicated his career to service, starting in the banking industry with
Bank One, County Savings Bank, and First Community Bank before
transitioning to property management. In 2015, he founded Stanford Glenn,
a property management company primarily serving low-income tenants. Tom
tirelessly advocated for those in need, often going above and beyond to
support his tenants. Beyond
his professional endeavors, Tom's commitment to service extended into
numerous volunteer roles. He devoted countless hours to First Community
Church, serving in various capacities including deacon and as a dedicated
member of the Governing Board, Nominating Committee, Worship and Arts
Council, and Burkhart Center Committee. He acted as FCC liaison to Cum
Christo/Cursillo, organized eight Camp Akita folk festivals, taught Bethel
Bible Study for four years, and led the death row ministry of presence,
regularly visiting inmates and connecting them with volunteer pen pals. Outside
the church, Tom also served organizations such as the Furniture Bank of
Central Ohio, Hope Thru Housing, and Kairos prison ministry. He
volunteered for the Community Recreation Council Golf chapter, which
offers golf lessons to underprivileged youth, and in his “spare time”
he enjoyed organizing high school reunions with the UA Class of ‘75
reunion planning committee. Tom's
passions included music, reading, golf, and spending cherished moments at
Camp Akita. He found joy in simple pleasures — countless catnaps,
crossword puzzles and bold cups of coffee — and treasured time spent
with his family and friends. Tom
is survived by his loving wife, Pat White; his children, Jessica White of
Brooklyn, NY, and Adam White of Cleveland, OH; his brothers, Paul (Connie)
White of Memphis, TN, Bob White of Memphis, TN, and Jim (Jane) White of
Columbus, OH. A
service of memory will be held on Saturday, March 9 at 1 p.m. in Grace
Hall at First Community Church, 3777 Dublin Rd, Columbus, Ohio, with
casual attire encouraged. The service will reflect Tom's easygoing and
joyful spirit, reminiscent of Camp Akita gatherings. As
a last Christmas gift to Tom, his children established the Thomas A. White
Legacy Fund at the Columbus Foundation to honor Tom's legacy of compassion
and service and champion the causes he held dear. In lieu of flowers,
